My Endorsement of Colt Shelby for Governor

Throughout this campaign, I have said that my first responsibility is not to a political party—it is to the people of Arkansas.
I entered this race because I believe our state deserves leaders who put service above partisanship, principle above politics, and the long-term interests of Arkansas above short-term political victories. Those convictions have guided every position I have taken, and they also guide this endorsement.
That is why I am proud to endorse Colt Shelby for Governor of Arkansas.
Some will ask why a Democratic candidate would endorse a Libertarian for Governor. The answer is simple: I believe character, integrity, and commitment to service should matter more than party labels alone.
While Colt and I come from different political traditions and do not agree on every issue, I have never believed that complete agreement on every policy should be the standard for supporting someone for public office. Leaders should be judged by their integrity, their judgment, their willingness to listen, and their commitment to faithfully serving the people who entrust them with authority.
Throughout this campaign, I have advocated for local control, transparent government, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and a government that remains accountable to the people it serves. I have argued that decisions should be made as close to our communities as possible while recognizing that there are times when statewide leadership is necessary to protect rights, ensure fairness, invest in critical infrastructure, strengthen education, and prepare Arkansas for the future.
Although Colt and I may approach some issues differently, we share important convictions about the principles that should guide public service. We both believe government should be transparent, accountable, and always mindful that its authority comes from the people. We believe public officials exist to serve the public—not themselves. We believe communities should be empowered rather than micromanaged by distant institutions. And we believe economic opportunity is strengthened when Arkansas workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses are supported rather than when government rewards favoritism or political connections.
Perhaps most importantly, we both recognize that Arkansas is strongest when families, faith communities, civic organizations, community groups, local businesses, and engaged citizens have the freedom and responsibility to build thriving communities. Government has an important role to play in protecting our freedoms, supporting opportunity, and serving the public good—but it cannot replace the character, responsibility, and civic spirit of the people who make a free society possible.
I also believe a strong state depends on engaged citizens who understand their rights, responsibilities, and role in self-government. Our democracy is strongest when citizens are informed, communities are empowered, and leaders remember that public office is a responsibility—not a privilege.
My campaign has never been about ideological purity. It has always been about finding practical solutions rooted in Arkansas values while treating people with dignity and respect—even when we disagree. Our politics would be healthier if more leaders were willing to recognize integrity wherever they find it instead of viewing every issue only through the lens of party affiliation.
This endorsement does not mean Colt and I agree on every policy. We do not, and neither of us would pretend otherwise. Rather, it reflects my belief that Arkansas deserves leaders who will govern honestly, respect constitutional principles, exercise humility in public office, and always remember that their authority comes from the people they serve.
At a time when our politics often reward division, outrage, and partisan loyalty above all else, I believe it is worth demonstrating that mutual respect and principled cooperation are still possible. We strengthen Arkansas not by agreeing on everything, but by working together where we can, debating honestly where we cannot, and never losing sight of our shared responsibility to leave our state better than we found it.
I encourage every Arkansan to learn about Colt Shelby, examine his vision for our state, and participate in our democratic process. After careful consideration, I believe he possesses the integrity, judgment, and commitment to public service necessary to lead Arkansas, and I am honored to give him my endorsement.
With respect for all Arkansans,
